Six officers injured after horse threat incident

A police officer has been taken to hospital and five other officers injured after responding to reports of a man carrying a knife and threatening a horse.

Essex Police said it was called at 18:55 BST on Saturday with reports the man was behaving erratically near Warwick Drive, Rochford.

The officers who went to the scene were injured while making an arrest, with one needing surgery. The horse was unharmed.

An 18-year-old man from Rochford was charged with assault occasioning grievous bodily harm with intent and three further counts of assault occasioning actual bodily harm.

He is also accused of possessing a bladed article in a public place, threats to destroy or damage property and two counts of assault with intent to resist arrest.

The force said all the officers involved were recovering and receiving support.
