Trains are running again after the discovery of several sinkholes caused train services to be suspended to Gatwick Airport and Brighton on Sunday.

Network Rail said "urgent repairs" were needed after the sinkholes were found on a bridge south of Purley during planned engineering work on the lines outside of the station.

All lines between Purley and East Croydon were closed while engineers carried out "thorough inspections on the bridge and worked to plug the sinkholes" on Sunday.

Network Rail Kent & Sussex confirmed on X shortly after midnight on Monday the repairs had been completed, "allowing trains to safely run again".

Network Rail also apologised for the disruption caused to passengers, adding that Sunday's tickets would be accepted on Monday's services.
