A man has died in a motorcycle crash on the Snake Pass in Derbyshire.

Officers said a 39-year-old man from Sheffield was riding a motorcycle on the A57 when it crashed close to the A6013 turn-off for Bamford shortly before 12:00 BST on Saturday.

Emergency services went to the scene but the man was pronounced dead, Derbyshire Police said.

The force added it believed no other vehicles were involved and specialist officers were supporting the man's family.

A stretch of the road was closed on Saturday while emergency services attended the scene but later reopened.

The well-known route had been closed for ground investigation works which are set to last until 3 July but had reopened temporarily for the weekend.
