Wildfire tears through parkland

Residents have been told to keep doors and windows closed

Ten fire crews are tackling a blaze on an area of parkland in West Bromwich.

West Midlands Fire Service said the blaze was between Westminster Road and Gordon Avenue in the Stone Cross area of the town.

One local resident, Craig Fallon, said a large area was severely burnt and the fire had come close to the playing fields at the nearby school, Phoenix Collegiate.

The fire service has advised anyone living or working in the area to keep doors and windows closed and avoid the area if possible.
