Smoke warning after large scrubland fire breaks out

Fire has broken out in the open on high land south of Shepshed

Emergency services are at the scene of a "large scrubland fire" in north Leicestershire.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said on Wednesday afternoon it had five engines plus a water carrier at Ives Head Trig Point, near Shepshed, alongside police.

It said the fire covered an area of about 100m x 200m.

A spokesperson for the brigade said: "Please could local residents close doors and windows to avoid smoke inhalation."
