Regeneration plans unveiled for resort's pier
North Yorkshire CouncilNew proposals to transform Scarborough's West Pier have been unveiled as part of a multi million-pound plan to "secure its future as both a working harbour and visitor attraction".
North Yorkshire Council said decades of exposure to harsh marine conditions had left many buildings in a "poor state", requiring significant investment to protect heritage and support the fishing industry.
The scheme would restore historical structures while introducing new flood-resilient commercial units and upgraded public facilities.
Councillor Mark Crane said the project was a "valuable opportunity to transform the harbour and safeguard it for future generations".
North Yorkshire CouncilPlans also include new kiosks, improved pedestrian routes and a paved plaza designed to host events and cultural activities.
The council said the proposals had been shaped by feedback from harbour users and local stakeholders, with a public consultation running until 13 July ahead of a planning application.
