Whale spotted near port confirmed dead
Cleethorpes Wildlife RescueA whale spotted at the Port of Immingham has been confirmed dead, wildlife rescuers have said.
The minke whale was reported to Cleethorpes Wildlife Rescue (CWR) on Wednesday evening, with volunteers attending the scene.
The British Divers Marine Life Rescue (BDMLR) and HM Coastguard were alerted to the report.
A BDMLR spokesperson said the whale was carried into port on the front of a ship, adding: "It is not clear if the whale was already deceased when it was struck by the vessel."
The Cetacean Strandings Investigation Programme, which examines dead whales and dolphins, has been informed and may carry out tests on the body.
Members of the public are being urged to contact the BDMLR if they spot a whale, dolphin or any other marine life that may be stranded or in distress.
