Rail station strike planned over 'unfair sacking'
BBCStaff working at Manchester's busiest rail station are set to strike on Saturday over what their union has said is the unfair sacking of a colleague.
About 70 Avanti West Coast members who are part of the RMT and work at Manchester Piccadilly have announced plans for a 24-hour strike, with further walk-outs planned.
The action comes after what the union said was the dismissal of a staff member based on "anonymous allegations" over which they have taken industrial action four times in the past two months.
Avanti West Coast has been contacted for comment.
RMT general secretary Eddie Dempsey said the sacked worker had "clearly been the victim of a toxic workplace culture which encouraged anonymous and unsubstantiated complaints".
He claimed the worker had been "made a scapegoat for multiple management failings".
The union wants to see the dismissal overturned, with further strikes scheduled for 29 August and 10 October.
