Motorway closed after biker dies in crash
BBCPart of the A1(M) motorway in West Yorkshire has been closed after a motorcyclist died in a crash.
Emergency services including the air ambulance were called to the collision, which happened at about 05:30 BST on the northbound carriageway between junctions 42 near Lumby and 43 for Aberford.
The rider, a 58-year-old man, was found on the grass verge a short time after the bike had been reported by a passing motorist, West Yorkshire Police said.
National Highways said the road had been closed between the two junctions and that diversions were in place.
Police said the biker was pronounced dead at the scene and urged anyone who saw what happened in the lead up to the crash to get in touch.
The force said the rider was wearing a white helmet and a green high-visibility motorcycle jacket at the time of the collision.
National Highways said its officers were in attendance assisting with traffic management and closures on the approach.
It added: "If this closure impacts on your planned route, please allow extra journey time."
