Teen girl is victim of 'abhorrent' sexual assault

Police are investigating after a teenage girl was seriously sexually assaulted in a city centre.

The "abhorrent" attack took place in the Portland Square area of Bristol at about 03:30 BST on 20 June, Avon and Somerset Police said.

A member of the public found the victim and contacted officers, who have now released a CCTV image of a man believed to have information that could assist their investigation.

Det Con Caitlin Hiles said the assault had caused "great distress" to the victim and her family.

The victim has been offered access to "any support services she feels she would benefit from", officers said.

The man officers are looking for is described as being of Asian heritage, between 20 and 24 years old, and of slim build.

He has black curly hair, a goatee-style beard, and was wearing grey trousers, a grey and black jacket and white trainers on the night of the assault. He was also riding a bicycle.

Hiles said: "We know incidents like this cause great concern in our community, and we can assure residents a thorough investigation is being carried out."

The force is appealing to anybody with CCTV or other relevant footage from the Portland Square and Cabot Circus area around the time of the incident to come forward.
