A Worcestershire county councillor has been suspended by the Liberal Democrats over claims she made antisemitic comments on social media.

Councillor Sam Ammar, who represents Bromsgrove South and also the Charford ward on Bromsgrove District Council, told the BBC she was "respecting and trusting the process" while also taking legal advice.

A spokesperson for the Liberal Democrats confirmed the suspension was "pending an ongoing investigation".

Bromsgrove District Council said it did not wish to comment, while Worcestershire County Council has also been contacted for a response.

Ammar responded: "I was suspended without prejudice from the Lib Dem membership. I remain a Lib Dem councillor.

"My Facebook post in January was neither intended to, nor did it, invoke antisemitic tropes. Any reference to 'paymasters' was not intended to denote Jewish people, and I have criticised politicians for receiving funding from pressure groups attached to many causes.

"I am committed to fairness, equality and non-discrimination and have consistently sought to support and represent people of all backgrounds. Any suggestion to the contrary is categorically denied."

Update 5th June 2026: This article was updated to include comments from Councillor Sam Ammar after she provided a further statement to the BBC.
