Residents are asked to keep their windows closed due to a fire at a former car breakers in Derby.

Six fire crews from Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire and an aerial ladder platform were called to the former Albert Looms site in Megaloughton Lane, Spondon, at about 17:05 BST on Sunday.

The fire service said a two-storey disused building at the site was well alight on arrival.

Police asked people in the area to keep doors and windows closed and travel carefully in the area due to "heavy smoke".

Albert Looms closed in 2024 after more than a century of trading.

The seven-acre Spondon site was sold in 2025 for an undisclosed sum to Derby-based Ivygrove Developments Ltd, which said it hoped to build small and medium-sized industrial units on the site.
