A non-league footballer has been jailed for his part in running a drugs line in Wakefield.

Billy Mole, who has played for clubs including Wakefield AFC, Horbury Town and Nostell Miners Welfare, was sentenced to 32 months in prison at Leeds Crown Court earlier.

The 27-year-old, formerly of Bonet Lane in Brinsworth, Rotherham, pleaded guilty to being concerned in the supply of both cocaine and heroin at the same court in April.

The judge, Mr Recorder David Gordon, made a forfeiture order for the destruction of the drugs found in Mole's possession and mobile phones belonging to him, as well as ordering the confiscation of £2,000 from the defendant's drug dealing, which will be donated to charity.

The offences took place between October last year and March, during which time Mole had been playing for Wakefield AFC in the Northern Counties East League Division One, the 10th tier of English football.

He has made more than 100 appearances for the West Yorkshire club, scoring more than 50 goals, with his last appearance coming in February according to their website.
