Firefighters have tackled a large blaze at a block of flats in Edinburgh.

Emergency services were called to Restalrig Road South at about 19:06 on Tuesday.

The Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) sent four engines and a specialist height team to the scene, and police closed the road.

Fire crews left the scene at about 00:45 and no casualties were reported. The fire is not thought to be suspicious.

The fire broke out on the roof of the flats shortly after 19:00 and spread throughout the building.

Dramatic images show huge clouds of white smoke engulfing the building and billowing into the sky.

Lothian Buses confirmed that a number of bus services had been diverted due to the incident.

A spokesperson said: "Due to a road closure, buses are unable to serve Restalrig Road South and Lochend Avenue and are instead diverted via Sleigh Drive in both directions until further notice."
