Plans to convert an 18th Century church which sites next to a graveyard into a three-bedroom home have been approved.

Kirkpatrick Juxta Parish Church is located about one mile (1.6km) south of the village of Beattock in Dumfries and Galloway.

The category B-listed property - built in the late 1790s - was put up for sale by the Church of Scotland last year as it was no longer needed.

Its new owners lodged plans with Dumfries and Galloway Council to convert it into a house and they have now been approved.

A council report said the conversion of the church would preserve the listed building in accordance with national policy.

"The proposed alterations will involve minimal alterations to the existing external structure and the internal alterations are respectfully designed to facilitate the change of use of the property," it added.

"The proposed works to the building would respect the appearance, character and architectural features which contribute to its listing."

The reported added the plans would not "overwhelm or otherwise damage its original character".

The property - and some surrounding land - went on the market in 2025 for offers over £110,000.

A design statement said the aim of the conversion work was to achieve something which was "respectful of the unique history and detailing of the architecture" while creating rooms "appropriate for modern-day living".
