A new security plan for England games shown at a fan zone in Leicester has been put in place after bottles were thrown during the team's 0-0 draw with Ghana.

Organisers of the Jubilee Square zone said they were disappointed by the "unacceptable behaviour of a small minority of individuals" who caused disruption from outside the site during Tuesday's game.

Leicestershire Police said it was investigating the incident, which happened just before 22:30 BST, but that no serious injuries were reported.

An "enhanced police and security presence" will now be in place for England's match against Panama at 22:00 BST on Saturday, which will be a ticketed event.

Organisers of the Summer on the Square event said the new plan, which has been agreed with Leicestershire Police and Leicester City Council, will "prevent access and crowding outside the perimeter and ensure a safe environment inside".

"We would like to thank the overwhelming majority of fans who attended our previous event," a spokesperson said.

"Inside the licensed fan zone, attendees were well-behaved, and the evening was managed successfully with no significant issues.

"We are, however, disappointed by the unacceptable behaviour of a small minority of individuals that occurred strictly outside the event footprint.

"The safety of our visitors and staff remains our highest priority."

The Panama match will now be an 18+ event and the £5 tickets will be limited to the "venue's safe operating limit", the spokesperson said.

All other events, community take-overs, sporting fixtures and World Cup matches will remain unaffected by the changes.

The pop-up space will be in Jubilee Square until the World Cup Final on 19 July.
