The campaign comes in a crackdown on poor oral hygiene in the city

Wolverhampton residents can now pick up free toothbrushes and toothpaste as part of a new campaign to boost oral health.

The scheme, which runs until the end of December, will see dental kits available to collect from sites across the city.

Launched by the City of Wolverhampton Council in partnership with The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust, the initiative is aimed at improving oral hygiene, particularly among children and young people.

In addition to the free kits, an online oral health toolkit has been developed to encourage good dental habits and raise awareness of the importance of oral care.

The kits will be available at:

  • Central Library
  • Graiseley Family Hub
  • WV Active Bilston-Bert Williams
  • WV Active Central
  • WV Active Aldersley

Councillor Obaida Ahmed said: "Poor oral health impacts on school readiness and leads to missed days of school due to pain and infection.

"It affects children's ability to eat, smile and socialise, negatively impacting their confidence and wellbeing, and it also increases demand on emergency dental care, with almost 90% of hospital tooth extractions among children aged up to five due to preventable tooth decay."
