A woman who was killed when a train struck her car on a level crossing has been described as a "devoted mum" who brought "so much love, laughter and kindness" into her family's lives.

Kerry Coombes, 33, died on Thursday after the collision on Station Road in Hoghton, Lancashire, at 08:50 BST.

An eight-year-old girl who was also in the car is in a critical but stable condition in hospital, British Transport Police said.

"She was a valued member of the team and will be greatly missed by her colleagues and by all those who knew her."
