Repair work on a burst sewage pipe which closed a waterway in Bradgate Park is under way.

On Monday, the Bradgate Park Trust confirmed there was no access to the river at the site in Newtown Linford, Leicestershire, due to pollution from the burst pipe.

Severn Trent said the river will remain closed while repair workers fix the leak and clean up the area.

A spokesperson said: "We'd like to thank local residents and visitors for their patience while this work is ongoing."

The park trust advised children and pets be kept away from the water.

Severn Trent added that it is monitoring the situation "closely" alongside the Environment Agency.
