Investigators have been unable to find the cause of a fire in Derby which led to a "small number of properties" being evacuated.

Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service sent crews from across the city and from Long Eaton to a ground-floor flat fire in Boyer Street at about 02:30 GMT on Wednesday 31 December.

Derbyshire Police said properties nearby were evacuated while the fire was tackled and power was cut to a number of properties "to ensure the safety of residents".

The fire was brought under control using three hose reel jets, and firefighters left the scene at about 05:30.

One man who was already out of the property when emergency services arrived was checked over for smoke inhalation.

A joint investigation into the cause has since concluded, with the cause being described as "undeterminable".
