A council has ordered the owners of a holiday let to remove their hot tub after complaints about late night parties, rowdiness and noise.

Neighbours of the property, which is in the leafy York suburb of Acomb, complained to the city council three times about groups of guests playing loud music, shouting, holding parties and using the outdoor spa late at night.

In April, the council's noise patrol was called to the property at 23:30 BST and found "a large group of women drinking and shouting in the hot tub", who became aggressive when asked to be quiet.

On 1 May, a noise abatement notice was served on the owner of the property, after which the council said he removed the feature.

A spokesperson for the local authority said the owner was required to stop allowing loud music and raised voices and he quickly responded to say he had taken action, including "decommissioning the hot tub" and reducing the number of people allowed to stay at the property.

No further complaints have been made.

Councillor Michael Pavlovic, executive member for safer communities at City of York Council, said: "We welcome the fact that people want to come and enjoy our beautiful city, and we know that holiday lets have a role to play in York's visitor economy.

"However, nobody should have to put up with repeated late-night noise and disruption in the place they call home. This case shows the action the council is prepared to take when residents are affected by ongoing nuisance."
