A Catholic school in Jersey has won a prestigious drama award.

Five students from year 10 at Beaulieu Convent School competed in the Independent Schools Association drama competition across three separate days and won, despite having been the youngest taking part.

They performed an extract from Girls Like That by Evan Placey at the event in February which featured students from independent schools across the UK.

The school's headteacher of drama and dance Tania du Bois said "the students' hard work talent and sheer perseverance" had meant they had done "exceptionally well".

Tania du Bois said she thought it was important for all children to have the opportunity to act

She said: "The level and the standard of students' work is phenomenal and we are very lucky that even outside of school we have amazing theatre schools that really really push our students to gain incredible skills."

"I think its very important that all kids get the opportunity to act," she added.

One of the drama students, Amber, said she was "really grateful" for the opportunity as it had been "genuinely just such an incredible experience".

"I think its nice that we are able to express ourselves in a different way on stage its just fun to be able to do something different for once," she added.
