A man in his 70s died after being hit by a HGV, police said

A pedestrian in his 70s has died following a crash with a HGV, police said.

The man was walking at Lake Road, Ambleside, when he was struck at 16:40 BST on Wednesday.

An air ambulance was called but the pedestrian was declared dead at the scene.

Cumbria Police closed the road overnight as investigations continued but it reopened earlier.

The force appealed to anyone with information or footage to come forward.
