Officials in Guernsey have destroyed 18 Asian hornet nests so far this year, comprising 10 primary nests and eight secondary nests, but some reported nests remain missing.

The Invasive Non-Native Species (INNS) team said half of the secondary nests had been found after reports from members of the public in the past 10 days.

An INNS spokesperson said tracking work and public sightings suggested there were still between four and six nesting sites yet to be located.

Asian hornets were first detected in Guernsey in 2017. The species is believed to have spread across Europe after arriving in southern France in 2004 in a shipment of pottery from Asia.
