Rail passengers have been warned to expect disruption in Derbyshire this weekend due to planned drainage work.

Network Rail will carry out work at three sites - Belper, Ogston and Clay Cross – which will aim to upgrade the reliability of some equipment and reduce flood risk.

East Midlands Railway has put an amended timetable in place between London St Pancras and Sheffield over the weekend, while CrossCountry journeys between Derby and the North East are set to take longer than usual.

Train company Northern is also set to run an amended timetable between Nottingham and Sheffield on Saturday only.

Dan Matthews, Network Rail operations director, said: "These works will help keep services running smoothly in the future, but we appreciate they will cause some disruption this weekend.

"We're sorry to anyone whose journey is affected and encourage everyone to check before they travel."

A spokesperson for the train operating companies said customers were advised to plan ahead and thanked passengers for their patience whilst the works were carried out.
