Police are appealing for witnesses after David MacKenzie died near Inverness

A 72-year-old cyclist who died after coming off his bike in Inverness has been named by police.

David MacKenzie, from Inverness, fell from a Bianchi pedal bike on the B9006 at Westhill, near Culloden, at about 08:45 on Saturday.

He was taken to Raigmore Hospital in Inverness but died a short time later.

The road was closed and reopened nearly three hours later. Police said inquiries are ongoing and appeal for witnesses to contact them.

Sgt Neil MacDonald said: "Our thoughts remain with the family and friends of Mr MacKenzie at this difficult time."
