Plans have been published for a revamp of a World War Two-era row of shops, funded by council high street improvement grants.

The Parade in Donnington, Telford, was built as part of a housing development around the nearby defence base in the 1940s.

Telford and Wrekin Council's Pride in Our High Street programme is funding new frontages for several of the shops, including new signs, glazing and shutters.

Councillor Ollie Vickers, cabinet member for jobs, said: "There are a range of businesses based at The Parade, and if planning is approved these improvements to the shop fronts, as well as the signage, will make a big difference to the look and feel of those units."

The authority has set aside £1.2m for high street improvement works across the borough this financial year, and Vickers said a decision to extend the programme to local centres made the Parade eligible for funding.

Facade grants range from £500 to £3,000 in conservation areas, with a £1,500 limit for units in non-conservation areas.

Other parts of the fund offer help to newly established businesses and honour those making a difference to shopping areas.
