Hundreds of children will be taking part in a triathlon while also raising money for blood cancer.

In its 13th year, the Dominion Jersey Kids' Triathlon, supported by island sporting charity One Foundation, said the event allowed children between the ages of six and 13 to develop their swimming, cycling and running skills over the short course.

They said more than £7,700 had already been raised by the participants for the Blood Cancer UK Jersey branch. The charity said the funds supported research into the causes and treatments of the disease.

More than 770 children are taking part in the event begins at 10:00 BST at Les Quennevais Sports and Leisure Centre in St Brelade on Saturday.

A spokesperson for the Blood Cancer UK Jersey branch said: "We are proud that it is a non-competitive and inclusive event - our triathletes just swim, cycle and run and have a great time and of course, everyone that crosses the finish line receives a fantastic medal.

"The sponsorship raised will be used to fund research into cures and treatments of all types of blood cancers, which will make a huge difference to so many lives."

Organisers reminded those taking part there were "no winners and no losers, only achievers".
