A man has been arrested after two people were seriously injured when a car hit a tree in Sheffield.

Police were called just before 04:00 BST after a black BYD Dolphin crashed on Hutcliffe Wood Road in the Beauchief area.

A woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with potentially life-threatening injuries and a man, also in his 20s, suffered serious injuries, South Yorkshire Police said.

A 25-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of burglary and dangerous driving.
