Man denies causing death by dangerous driving
York RUFCA man has denied killing a 74-year-old man who died when he was hit by a car in Castleford last year.
Brian McClure, from York, was struck by a Honda Civic on Barnsdale Road on 18 February 2025 and died at the scene.
Christopher Bamber, 40, of Westfield Lane in Kippax, pleaded not guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and causing death by driving while unfit through drink at Leeds Crown Court earlier.
Judge Neil Clark awarded Bamber conditional bail and said the next available date for a trial would be 11 December 2028.
The trial is expected to last four days.
In a statement at the time of his death, McClure's family said: "Brian was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
"A kind, warm and loving man, he will be hugely missed by all. A life cruelly cut short."
