Inside the town starring in a new BBC series

A couple from Warwickshire have said it was "fascinating and really good fun" to see their home turned into a murder scene for a new BBC series.

Nostalgic crime drama The Hairdresser Mysteries stars Sally Phillips as Lily Petal who buys a small village hairdressing salon at the top of a cobbled street, but gets caught up in the town's secrets.

Filming took place in the West Midlands in September and October 2025, with filming locations including Alcester, Stratford-upon-Avon, Wellesbourne, and Worcester.

Alcester is no stranger to film crews with popular BBC series Shakespeare and Hathaway also using it regularly as a location.

Mark and Kathryn Cargill were approached by series producers who wanted to use their home in Oversley Green, just outside Alcester, as a filming location.

Mr Cargill said: "The location manager put a note through the door saying would we be interested in letting our house be used for the location shots, and we thought 'why not? It's a bit of fun'. And I'd like to see what is behind the scenes as well, because I'm an engineer and like to know how things work."

The exterior and interior of their house were used for scenes in the first episode where a body was discovered by the two lead characters.

He said they got to hear some of the filming taking place.

"It was quite a hoot because we were out in the back with the director and he was guiding it.

"And then I heard 'I want more blood, more blood, we need more blood', followed very shortly by 'the dog's licking the blood!'

"Fascinating, some of the things they do."

Other nearby locations were also used, including stately home Ragley Hall and the town's Church House, which was the set for the hairdressing salon.

It regularly caused a stir on the local Facebook group Alcester News, with locals posting photos and videos any time the cast and crew were spotted filming.

Mark felt that anyone approached by the BBC to use their home as a location should embrace it: "Trust them, because these guys are absolutely professionals.

"They moved all the stuff in, they moved all the stuff out, we found one piece of a jigsaw puzzle under the table, and that was it.

"It's really interesting, good fun - the team were fantastic and the cast were marvellous."
