A man who shot at a Land Rover has been jailed after DNA on the gun casings linked him to the crime.

Kyle Dearn, of Pitt Street, Rotherham, ran after the vehicle as it drove down his street and fired two rounds from a sawn-off shotgun.

A CCTV camera captured him running from the scene wearing a grey tracksuit top which was later found when his home was searched.

The 38-year-old was jailed at Sheffield Crown Court on Wednesday for 11 years with an extended licence period of four years, having previously admitted possessing a shotgun with intent to endanger life.

Temp Det Sgt Jess Mitchell from South Yorkshire Police said "Dearn had no second thought for the potential deadly consequences of his behaviour.

"Fortunately, no one was injured but this isn't always the case. Every time a bullet is fired innocent lives are put at needless risk."

She said it was "crucial" that local communities reported any knowledge about gun crime to prevent "unbearable tragedies" from occurring.
