Tom Morris, 357 yards, par four
With the distance the modern players hit the ball, the 18th green is driveable in the right conditions. There's out-of-bounds down the right but otherwise a huge wide fairway, shared with the first, with the line on the clock of the R&A clubhouse. It's all about getting the right angle into the pin, depending on where it's cut, over the Valley of Sin. This little hollow which runs in front of the green is the key to the whole hole. The dilemma is how to cross it - pitch over it or run through it? It's a tremendous finishing hole, what with all the history and the sloping green, and there's nothing quite like going up the last at St Andrews with all the crowds cheering you on.
