Short (out), 175 yards, par three
The eighth is the first of only two short holes on the Old Course. From a sheltered tee, the putting surface is unsighted due to a bunker that guards the front of the green. It's a very difficult tee shot to judge because the ball tends to have a very hard first bounce. Getting close is always tough and you very rarely see a ball end up inside 10 feet. Often you think you've hit a good one and it ends up 40 feet away. It's a double green with the 10th and is a tricky green to read with very subtle breaks. Short: The name is obvious, but the length belies the difficulty if the wind is blowing.
