The seventh hole on the Old Course

The seventh is the start of the loop holes through to the 12th, usually the area to make your score on in good conditions.

There is gorse all the way up the right-hand side and it is about 240 yards to clear it, so you need a driver, two-iron or three-wood to take it out of play.

The fairway is very undulating so it's very much a positional tee shot, which leaves you a pitch to a green with an awkward camber at the front.

Over the rampart, the ball kicks on and to the right, and when the pin is cut close to the front it is tricky to get near in two.

It's tempting to play a run shot, shooting the ball up the bank, but with the green running away from you it makes for a quite difficult approach.

High (out): The name derives from the elevated position overlooking the Eden Estuary.
