Was there a fellow professional or colleague that he sought council from during tough times?

"Not exactly. Scottie has been such a great role model for a lot of people.

"Playing on Tiger's team on TGL, I've got to really ask him questions about certain things and he's been really helpful a lot of the time.

"Even on YouTube, just listening to the best players in the world and trying to blend it in my mind."

He said the first text he received after winning today was from Tiger Woods.

On whether there was a low point for him, he adds: "A lot of moments, I can't say this exact moment, but a lot of moments out there on the golf course that felt that way

"I guess it's just part of golf.

"I'd never gone through that in my career and can't say I won't go through it again. Golf is unique.

"I now know what to do with those moments, I'm going to hold them close to my core."

  5. 'I was very in control'published at 20:46 BST 12 July

Tom Kim is asked specifically about his ball-striking in his final round: "It was good today. I was very in control of my ball.

"Conditions were tough. The shot on two I'll remember for a long time even though I didn't make the putt.

"I didn't have a lot of stress apart from the last hole. It was a cool feeling to be able to control my ball like that."

Continuing on a similar theme, he adds: "One of the biggest things [I've learned about myself] is that all the work you put in might not get rewarded.

"You might put in 12 hours every day but not get rewarded.

"I'm more proud of the moments when I didn't give up or when I had doubts, instead of going another way, I kept going. I'm more proud of that.

"Next week is a major, I'm not going to look back at this week, I'm going to treat it day-by-day."

  7. 'My journey is just starting'published at 20:42 BST 12 July

After his first win in nearly three years, and still only 24, Tom Kim is asked if he was surprised to go so long without success after tasting it so early in his career.

"I've worked long hours in my life to try and win out here, and when I first won, it was all the work I put in... I was getting the reward," he says.

"Now I look at it like you can put exactly 10 hours in and one guy might win, one guy might not, there's so much that goes into golf, and you might not get the reward every time,

"I was too young to comprehend what was really happening.

"Being 24 now, I really feel like my journey is just starting, I'm maturing."

  8. Postpublished at 20:39 BST 12 July

On the patience he's needed to get back to winning ways: "I've had to have a lot of patience the past couple of years. Patience goes such a long way.

"Links golf is the perfect way to describe certain things - you might hit a good drive, but get a bad bounce and go in the bunker.

"It's very luck dependant and you have to take it in and keep going.

"The fourth hole into the wind is a very difficult hole. Hitting a good drive and finishing up in a divot - looking back, I did such a good job to make birdie.

"I looked at it as not 'why has this happened?' but 'how can I deal with this?'.

"I tried to take every adversity and turn it into an advantage."

"We play in the US, every golfer wants to play the PGA tour, there is a lot that goes into that, though, and there are a lot of sacrifices that need to be made," he continues.

"I could see the Scottish fans behind him [Bob MacIntyre], which was really cool in front of his home crowd.

"The Scottish fans are one of the best in the world [to play in front of], they applaud for really good shots.

    "It's the home of golf.

  10. 'A good water night'published at 20:36 BST 12 July

"I don't drink alcohol, so it's going to be a good water night for me," Kim says when reminded he spoke fondly of his love for the water over here.

You can't beat Scottish tap water, in fairness.

What does this mean going to Birkdale?

"I'm not going to really carry this week into next week.

"That's something I've learned a lot - you have a good week and put it behind you and move on.

"I'll enjoy tonight - call the people that mean the world to me and then go into next week with a fresh mind."

  12. 'I appreciate this more now than before'published at 20:34 BST 12 July

On what a win means ot him, he adds: "It's really hard to put into words.

"If it wasn't for all the media and all the photos, I'd probably just go into my room and cry.

"I've had long days, long nights, and early mornings - I remember the times when I wasn't playing well.

"I definitely appreciate this more now than I did a couple of years ago, which is really cool.

"I thought about all my family and all those people around me."

  13. Postpublished at 20:33 BST 12 July

Tom Kim is asked if this is a full-circle moment for him: "This tournament has always been one I've really wanted to win.

"This is where it all started for me - I finished third here and then I went on to win two times that year.

"I've had some heartbreaks here, so to be able to finish it off today is really cool for me."

  14. 'It's been a while' - Kimpublished at 20:32 BST 12 July

Tom Kim has joined us in the media tent for his press conference.

"It's awesome, it's been a while since I lifted a trophy," he says.

"It's really cool, I was trying to win a golf tournament. There's always pressure and always nerves.

"The experience I've built over the last few years, I leaned on it.

    "I trusted my practice.

    "A really cool day."

  15. 'Good problems' to have for Thorbjorsenpublished at 20:30 BST 12 July

    Thorbjornsen -12 (69)

Michael Thorbjorsen is into this coming week's Open championship, and he spoke of his excitement following confirmation of his qualification this evening.

    "I'm very excited," he said.

"A lot's happened in the past hour, two-over through 14 holes or so, I can't remember, but I made a few birdies coming down the stretch.

"Things didn't feel great and I kind of found something and stuck to it, and very happy with how things ended up.

    "Yeah, extremely excited.

"Since I wasn't in prior to this week, I mean, we had no plans, no accommodations set up or anything.

"So it's going to be a little bit of a mess the next 24 hours, but these are all good problems."

  17. MacIntyre 'in a good position' ahead of Openpublished at 20:19 BST 12 July

    MacIntyre -13 (69)

Scotland's Bob MacIntyre finished in a share for third this week at thirteen under.

“Yeah, the week overall was a good week," he told BBC Scotland.

"I got a look at the positives in that, it was a good week, third-place finish.

"Having a chance, going out today, having a chance going into the back nine of the day, eventhough it was a bad start.

"It wasn't to be, but again, just look at the positives, try and take the positives. It's a good week, third place.

“I'm in a good position [heading to the Open].

"I didn't putt it as good as I wanted to this week, didn't hole the putts that I expect to hole, like that one on 18.

"I mean, I'm standing over that thing, but no other thought than this ball is going in the hole.

“Just because of the way I normally putt, the way I'm rolling it, but I just, I misread it.

"The greens are tricky in links golf, the greens are so subtle and yeah, that one just didn't move as much as I thought it was going to."

  19. 'I got to taste a lot of humble pie' - Kimpublished at 20:12 BST 12 July

Tom Kim will be joining us shortly in the media tent for his press conference duties.

He gave a very brief interview outside moments ago:

"I told myself, I was hoping I wouldn't lose this one. I knew just mentally, physically that it was all there."

[On how he has turned his fortunes around]: "Just try to get better each day.

"Obviously I've had a tough couple years. I got to taste a lot of that humble pie, and I got to really learn about myself and I'm still trying to grow, still trying to learn. Still got a long way to go.

"But this one I wanted to dedicate to the people that were in my corner the whole time and struggled with me and who celebrated with me."
