Wyndham Clark looks absolutely rock solid right now.

Excellent short game work again from Wyndham Clark to get back up from off the green well in range, and he makes a testing putt look pretty easy as he knocks it in for his three.

That's what Clark's done all week though, make a really tough golf course look pretty easy at times - almost boring at times, especially to those wanting to see a real scrap for this US Open title, as he looks in no mood to open the door for anyone.

  3. Burns bogeys 10published at 22:28 BST 20 June

    Burns -1 (10)

    Commentator's curse on Sam Burns.

A first bogey of the round at the 10th after soaring his approach over the green.

    He drops back to -1.

  4. Bogey finish for Fleetwoodpublished at 22:25 BST 20 June

    Fleetwood +1 (70)

Tommy Fleetwood bogeys the final hole. That all came from flaying his drive into the rough off the tee.

The Englishman will need a repeat of that sizzling final-round 63 in 2018, you'd imagine to get anywhere close on Sunday.

  5. Burns sticking aroundpublished at 22:24 BST 20 June

    Burns -2 (9)

Sam Burns has made the turn with a rather satisfying scorecard so far.

    4 3 4 4 4 4 3 4 4 - with the one in bold a birdie at the fifth.

In the final group on Sunday at the 2025 US Open, he's putting himself in contention for something similar this year.

  6. The deadly seventh!published at 22:23 BST 20 June

    Clark -7, M. Fitzpatrick E (6)

This seventh green is diabolical! Both Matt Fitzpatrick and Wyndham Clark hit it, but hit it in the wrong spot and their golf balls go trundling off the putting surface and down the huge slope off to the left at one of these turtle back greens.

    Work to do from there.

We NEED these rules. It's great to see a really tough course, not 'I shot 30 under par and missed the cut'

    Morikawa E, T Kim -1 (8)

Another chance for Collin Morikawa to get in the red disappears at the eighth.

    He always gives himself chances.

    Par too for Tom Kim.

  9. 'Ridiculous'published at 22:19 BST 20 June

    Scheffler E (14)

    James Gregg
    BBC Radio 5 Live commentator

That's a big chip-in for Scottie Scheffler. If we're talking about Rory McIlroy being in contention, then the world number one certainly is now too.

    That was ridiculous!

  10. Shinnecock salutes Schefflerpublished at 22:19 BST 20 June

    Scheffler E (14)

Scottie Scheffler raises the roof (if there was one) on the 14th with a chip-in from 65 feet away or a much-needed birdie.

And the celebration is remarkably intense and lively from the world number one - I'm not sure he celebrated that much when he won the US PGA last year!

It's obviously been a tough day out there for Scheffler as he battles the currentl flaws in his game - but knowing what he's like he'll still believe he's in with a shout here - especially if he can build on that epic chip-in.

  11. Great par savepublished at 22:17 BST 20 June

    Clark -6, M. Fitzpatrick E (6)

Wyndham Clark is a bit wayward again but his short game and putter come to his rescue yet again - finishing of with a seven footer to save his par. Great toughness from the leader.

Matt Fitzpatrick makes a nice par via a fairway and green but he's still struggling to get any movement back up the leaderboard.

  12. Putting woespublished at 22:16 BST 20 June

    Stevens -4, Schauffele -2 (7)

Two wonderful shots into the par-three seventh from Xander Schauffele and Sam Stevens.

But neither of them can make the putt! That's a shame, especially for Stevens, whose shot nearly pitched into the hole.

    McIlroy E (13)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on 5 Live

It does feel like a big final five holes for Rory McIlroy.

I think he needs to be under par. If he can make a couple of birdies coming in and post one or two under, then he'll be in striking distance.

  14. Chance gone for McIlroypublished at 22:14 BST 20 June

    McIlroy E (13)

Full send for Rory at 13.

Running hot after that three-putt bogey on 12, he crashes a driver down the hill and reaches the green!

It's carrying far too much speed though and trundles off into the bunker, from where he splashes out to 11 feet.

Needs this birdie. No, it hangs on the left edge. Just a par.

  15. Postpublished at 22:12 BST 20 June

    Parry +3 (71)

John Parry concludes his round by dropping in a left-to-right birdie from a smidgen over 20 feet.

It's been solid stuff from the Englishman, 39, who also made 16 pars, with the only blemish a double bogey on the 12th where he had sand trouble.

It leaves him currently sat in a tie for 26th, which is not bad at all considering he was not even ranked inside the top 1000 players in the world in 2021, when he was playing on the EuroPro Tour.

Being a bit of a hothead myself, I can totally see how frustrations get the better of players. The odd outburst is fine, but when the line is overstepped, there should be a firm and fair punishment. We need to nurture these players still

    Schauffele -2 (6)

    Andrew Murray
Former European Tour winner on 5 Live

That was just a poorly played bunker shot from Xander Schauffele.

He sliced the wotsits off it so no wonder it went right.

  18. Sand trouble for Schauffelepublished at 22:05 BST 20 June

    Stevens -4, Schauffele -2 (6)

A poorly played bunker shot from Xander Schauffele costs the American a shot at the sixth, giving back the birdie he picked up at the previous hole.

No trouble for Sam Stevens, though. Two good shots into the green and a stress-free par. He's been impressive so far.

  19. Birdie for Kim, gutsy par for Morikawapublished at 22:04 BST 20 June

    Morikawa E, T Kim -1 (7)

That's more like it from Tom Kim, and the Korean has a spring in his step as he strides off the seventh green.

A tremendous tee shot and a fine 10-foot birdie putt gets him the right side of zero once again.

Playing partner Collin Morikawa is putting from seven-and-a-half feet for par - terrific save.

  20. Clark birdiepublished at 22:02 BST 20 June

No eagle for Wyndham Clark but a birdie will do him very nicely as he moves back to seven under for the tournament.

There's a long way to go but if he stays exactly where he is then it'll be very difficult for anyone to catch him.
