  1. Brilliant lagpublished at 19:37 BST 20 June

    McIlroy E, McNealy E (2)

    That was tremendous.

Rory McIlroy balloons his shot at the par-three second into the wind and comes up short. But his lag putt from 93 feet is first-class. He knocks it stone dead and makes another par.

Like he did at the first, Maverick McNealy fails to cash in after a stunning iron shot and stays alongside McIlroy at even.

  2. Eagle for Fleetwoodpublished at 19:27 BST 20 June

    Fleetwood E (5)

Tommy Fleetwood needed that. The Englishman finds the fifth green in two and then rolls in a 20-foot putt for a timely eagle.

Exactly what he needed after making a bogey on the third hole a little earlier.

  3. McIlroy avoids opening bogeypublished at 19:25 BST 20 June

    McIlroy E, McNealy E (1)

Rory McIlroy takes an iron off the first tee but still finds the rough. It's a favourable lie, but his ball still shoots out low and right and ends up in the bunker we just saw Scottie Scheffler in.

McIlroy splashes out to six feet and makes the putt to avoid an opening bogey. Good way to ease his way into the round.

Maverick McNealy sent his second straight over the flag but can't make the birdie putt.

  4. Bogey start for Schefflerpublished at 19:24 BST 20 June

    Scheffler +1 (1)

Scottie Scheffler gets off to just the type of start he didn't want with a bogey at the first, and a really scrappy hole pretty much from tee to green.

A chunked second stayed in the rough, then his third had no control so raced across the green into the sand - so it was actually pretty well played to just drop one shot by getting up and down from the bunker.

Justin Rose has had a bit of a nightmare start to his third round. The Englishman, who won the US Open back in 2013 has been a bit all over the place since opening with a par and it has cost him.

He's dropped shots on the second and third and now fails to dunk in a par-saving putt from 15 feet on the fourth.

  7. Can McIlroy minimise mistakes?published at 19:12 BST 20 June

Rory McIlroy had a five-foot putt on the ninth to move four under yesterday. He missed it - and then proceeded to bogey the next three holes. He also doubled the 15th after thinning a chip shot across the green and into the bunker.

His short game deserted him but he can't afford to fritter away at such an alarming rate today.

With birdies few and far between out there, minimising mistakes and just generally hanging around will be the order of the day for the six-time major winner. And if Wydnham Clark has a wobble, McIlroy could still be in the mix heading into championship Sunday.

McIlroy has Maverick McNealy for company today. The 30-year-old American carded an impressive 68 yesterday to make just his second US Open cut.

McNealy finished tied 18th at this year's Masters and USPGA Championship, so he has shown impressive form in the majors.

  8. Scheffler stunnedpublished at 19:11 BST 20 June

    Scheffler E

It's not a good 'wow' Scottie Scheffler is mouthing to his caddie on the first hole either. He found just the first cut of rough off the tee so it didn;t look like too much of a problem, but his approach was totally fluffed and just chunked out 74 yards down into more rough.

Scheffler couldn't believe his ball came out like that, with the club head obviously being twisted by the grass - even the world number one has those ones from time to time.

  9. Postpublished at 19:05 BST 20 June

    Rai +2 (2)

Not an ideal start for the US PGA Champion Aaron Rai. The Englishman's approach into the first green carries a little too far and all of a sudden he's faced with two putts from 63 feet to save his par.

But the strong breezes today have not exactly made judging the pace of putts easy and he comes up eight feet short and then tentatively misses his par putt left, maybe not quite trusting his line.

He then scoots through the second green off the tee but clips back to 11 inches to settle any early-round nerves.

  13. It's 'Moving Day' at the US Openpublished at 19:00 BST 20 June

Welcome aboard everyone to Saturday's third round at the 126th US Open - and you could say this is where the fun and games really begin.

The wind is sweeping across Shinnecock Hills and there's no more playing nice by the USGA with green speeds increased and some pretty tricky pins too.

It's called 'Moving Day' as players try to make their charge, but today a lot of the movement could be backwards and it could turn out to be a real survival of the fittest.

Wyndham Clark has a healthy four-shot cushion at the top of the leaderboard with Matt Fitzpatrick in the chasing pack alongside Xander Schauffele.

Rory McIlroy and Scottie Scheffler are not a million miles away, but they need to move quickly and hope for a stumble from our leader - and with conditions as they are there's plenty of chances for a slip-up.

So get comfortable and watch the world's best golfers put through their paces by one of the toughest tests in golf. Let the carnage commence!
