  1. Pars for Rose and Zalatorispublished at 20:45 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -7, Zalatoris -6 (6)

Zalatoris, increasing wind whistling through the baggy shirt on his slim shoulders, goes first with the putter. Lovely judgement. Two feet left from about 40.

Rose up next from across the green... decent weight, just drifting off left at the end.

There should be a pair of routine par putts coming up. Rose converts the first, Zalatoris adds the second.

  2. Postpublished at 20:45 BST 10 April 2021

    Harman -4, Leishman -6 (6)

Another hole, another par for Marc Leishman.

The Australian goes close to sinking a 60-foot putt but then has to overcome an awkward six-eight footer to save par.

  3. DeChambeau's second doublepublished at 20:42 BST 10 April 2021

    DeChambeau +3 (12)

Bryson DeChambeau plays the 11th hole in fine style. A huge drive leaves a short iron, possibly even a wedge into the green. And that means he can attack the flag.

His approach is 15 feet short and the putt is rattled in.

Over to the 12th. The short hole with the water protecting the green.

"Oh the wind," says DeChambeau as his ball hits the bank and topples back into the water. That's his second double bogey of the day.

    Rose -7, Zalatoris -6 (5)

On the sixth tee, where 180 yards separate Rose and Zalatoris from the pin.

The young American still has the honour, knocking his shot over the flag to the back left of the green.

Can Rose better that? His ball clings onto the front of the green. A few murmurs from the patrons indicates their concern that it might roll back into the bunker.

  5. Double bogey for Spiethpublished at 20:41 BST 10 April 2021

    Spieth -3, Wiesberger -3 (7)

Jordan Spieth clips out of the sand and up to the far fringes of the green. It's 10 feet from the pin but a tricky putt from there and he leaves it a few rotations short.

The American wanders overs to his ball and taps in for a double-bogey six.

  6. Postpublished at 20:39 BST 10 April 2021

    Matsuyama -5, Schauffele -4 (9)

Hideki Matsuyama gets out of trouble on Carolina Cherry with a well-judged chip from the right of the green. That brings a ripple of applause from the patrons present and an eighth par on the front nine for the Japanese player.

Xander Schauffele takes the more conventional route down the middle from tee to green for exactly the same result.

  7. Spieth in troublepublished at 20:37 BST 10 April 2021

    Spieth -5, Wiesberger -3 (6)

Jordan Spieth has 159 yards to make up after his drive at seven but seems to have taken a couple of clubs too long with that approach.

The American clears the patrons standing behind the green, and is then only able to pitch into a bunker with his third.

  8. Bogey for Rosepublished at 20:35 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -7, Zalatoris -6 (5)

Rose from the bunker on five... clean swipe but the ball scurries past the hole. About eight feet back to save par.

Zalatoris has a long putt from the front... down the hill, over the valley and back up towards the hole. Beautifully-judged and leaving him with a short par putt.

Can Rose save par? Nope. He's back to where he was at the start of the day. Those birdies on one and two have been wiped out on four and five.

  9. Postpublished at 20:34 BST 10 April 2021

    Harman -4, Leishman -6 (5)

Some more good scrambling from Marc Leishman to save par. The Australian goes well right with his approach into five but he recovers with a fine chip before rolling in a tricky putt.

  10. Reed sets clubhouse leadpublished at 20:32 BST 10 April 2021

    Reed -1 (F)

Patrick Reed, the 2018 champion, is our new clubhouse leader.

The American had six birdies today but also four bogeys, including one on the last, after missing a four-foot par putt.

Still, a one-under-par 71 is a decent score in the toughest conditions of the week so far.

  11. Postpublished at 20:32 BST 10 April 2021

    Thomas -5, Finau -3 (7)

What a recovery this is from Justin Thomas. After the American pulls his drive into the trees on the left, he somehow finds a gap to punch out of the pines and land on the green.

Two putts and that's a par.

  12. Postpublished at 20:30 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -8, Zalatoris -6 (4)

Justin Rose grimaces as he overhits his second on the fifth. Into the bunker at the back of the green.

No such problem for Will Zalatoris. He knocks onto the green and will be grabbing his putter on the way there.

  13. Conners falling backpublished at 20:27 BST 10 April 2021

    Conners -5 (10)

If you've never had the good fortune to get to Augusta National, it's difficult to explain just how hilly it is.

The drop from the 10th tee to the lowest point on the hole is the height of the Statue of Liberty. But there is a keen slope back up to the green.

Corey Conners is in the middle of the fairway after his tee shot and he is a fraction short with his second, and it reverses back off the green.

His chip on hits the handbrake eight feet beyond the pin but he can't make the par putt.

  14. Birdie for Schauffelepublished at 20:27 BST 10 April 2021

    Matsuyama -5, Schauffele -4 (8)

Xander Schauffele is back in business on eight. A superb pitch in towards the pin almost sees the American claim a memorable eagle. But a birdie still takes him back into the black numbers for Saturday.

Hideki Matsuyama plays the hole in exemplary fashion from tee to green but then slides his six-foot birdie attempt by on the left.

  15. Postpublished at 20:27 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -8, Zalatoris -6 (4)

After bogeying the last, the par-four fifth provides a good chance of redemption for our final pairing.

With the hole doglegging from right to left, a drive to the right side of the fairway is optimal. And that's exactly what both Zalatoris and Rose do.

  16. Postpublished at 20:25 BST 10 April 2021

    Spieth -5, Wiesberger -3 (6)

Another birdie chance stays up for Jordan Spieth and he remains at five under, three off the pace set by Justin Rose.

It's a tee shot into the heart of the green from the 2015 champion at the par-three sixth and from 13 feet he only has to nudge it pin-bound down the slope. It comes up just left and he'll take a par.

  17. MacIntyre going wellpublished at 20:25 BST 10 April 2021

    MacIntyre -1 (12)

Scotland's Bob MacIntyre is putting together a solid round on his Masters debut.

He rolls in a four-footer on the par-three 12th for par.

He's had four birdies and three bogeys in his opening 12 holes.

  18. Watch Rose open with birdiepublished at 20:23 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -8 (4)

  19. Postpublished at 20:22 BST 10 April 2021

    Thomas -5, Finau -3 (6)

Both Justin Thomas and Tony Finau find the green on the par-three sixth. Can either sink their birdie putts? No. Two putts apiece and they complete the hole in regulation.

  20. Bogeys for Rose and Zalatorispublished at 20:21 BST 10 April 2021

    Rose -8, Zalatoris -6 (4)

Zalatoris sets his ball down the hill and it slowly meanders towards its destination. Four tricky feet left.

Rose splashes out and ends up close to the fringe at the other side of the pin. Little else he could do, in truth.

The putt back drifts right, a hand gesture from the Englishman as soon as he connects signals he knows it isn't a good one.

Zalatoris can't control his ball either, sliding down the left of the hole.

    A pair of bogeys.
