Justin Rose begins the third round of the Masters leading for the 16th time after 36 holes on a PGA Tour event.

He has gone on to win on four of the previous 15 occasions, most recently at the Farmers Insurance Open in 2019.

The Englishman has led once at the Masters at the same stage, back in 2004, when he finished tied for 22nd.

  3. Thomas pars opener, bogey for Finaupublished at 19:12 BST 10 April 2021

    Thomas -4, Finau -3 (1)

Justin Thomas and Tony Finau will be among many people's picks for the Green Jacket and the American pair moved themselves up the leaderboard with fantastic rounds yesterday.

World number two Thomas, fresh from his triumph at the Players' Championship last month, hit a five-under 67 to put himself in a good position.

"I'm always confident here at Augusta, it is about how you play," he said yesterday.

"I truly feel if I'm playing poorly I can come in and have a chance, I know how to get around it and it is about the execution. I definitely need to make more putts over the weekend."

Finau, who has finished T10, T5 and T38 on his previous three appearances, shot a six-under 66 to go into the weekend alongside his Ryder Cup team-mate.

"I've had some nice finishes and hope to use that to my advantage over the next couple of days," said the world number 13.

However... he has not started positively. A bogey at the first...

Brian Harman, 34, grew up not far from Augusta in nearby Savannah, Georgia, and could follow Phil Mickelson and Mike Weir as a left-handed Masters champion.

"Getting to play this place as a kid was always something in the back of my mind. You always want to do well at Augusta," Harman said.

"Watching Phil win his first one is probably my fondest memory, being a left-handed guy."

Like Will Zalatoris, Harman received a late entry to the men's first major championship of the year by getting inside the top-50 in last week's world golf rankings.

"Three weeks ago, I didn't expect to be playing in the Masters," said Harman who is ranked 49th.

"So after a couple good days, to be in contention is just icing on the cake for me. "Whenever you look up on the leaderboard and you see your name up there pretty high at Augusta, it's hard not to get nervous."

South Korea's Kim Si-woo damaged his putter in frustration on the 15th yesterday but went on to make par using his three wood and then used the same club to par the remaining three holes.

The broken putter has now been re-shafted, while he has also been sent a back-up by the manufacturer if needs be.

But, flat stick back in hand, he has opened Saturday's round with a three-putt bogey.

Playing partner Cameron Champ also made bogey and the pair drop back to three under.

  6. Spieth in contentionpublished at 19:05 BST 10 April 2021

    Spieth -4, Wiesberger -4 (19:00)

Jordan Spieth won the Texas Open last week to end a losing run that stretched back to his win at the 2017 Open Championship and is also in contention this weekend.

The 2015 Masters champion closed the gap on Justin Rose to two shots with a four-under 68 on Friday.

It is the third time the American has opened with consecutive rounds under par at the tournament, with the previous two resulting in a tie for second in 2014 before he claimed the Green Jacket the following year.

Spieth is playing alongside Austria's Bernd Wiesberger, who made six birdies in his opening 10 holes to set the early clubhouse lead on Friday.
