  1. Postpublished at 17:12 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy E, Johnson -8, Cantlay -4 (6*)

Cantlay gets a round of applause as his strike on the par-three 16th spins back to about six feet of the hole. Lovely shot.

McIlroy's doesn't do as much. He's having to grind for those breaks.

DJ kills the ball dead about eight feet shy - he needed that.

  2. Im joins share of leadpublished at 17:09 GMT 13 November 2020

    Im -8 (4*)

Back-to-back birdies for Sungjae Im and, with Dustin Johnson stumbling, that brings him into a share of the lead at eight under par.

  3. Johnson bogeys again; McIlroy birdiepublished at 17:09 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy E, Johnson -8, Cantlay -4 (6*)

Cantlay misses a golden eagle chance by a whisker. He can't believe it. He's up to four under though.

McIlroy has an outside chance of a birdie after his chip and run comes to within about eight feet of the 15th hole. He makes his putt. Steady as she goes Rory.

Johnson's par putt clips the lip. It's a six and he's back to eight under and a share of the lead having been at 10 under.

  5. Johnson in the water!published at 17:02 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +1, Johnson -9, Cantlay -3 (5*)

Cantlay with an eagle putt chance after his ball drops over the flag - three feet shy.

McIlroy yells right. He's right, but at least it's on the fringe unlike Dustin Johnson's, whose ball drops short and drops down into the water.

The leader has a fourth shot from the penalty area.

  6. Postpublished at 17:01 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -6, Koepka -4, Fitzpatrick +1 (7*)

Matthew Fitzpatrick is fighting back. Two birdies on the trot for the Englishman.

Brooks Koepka is in for par, and Justin Thomas can casually pop his ball in for a birdie after that splendid tee shot.

  7. Langer losing touchpublished at 17:01 GMT 13 November 2020

    -3 Langer (6)

Normally Bernhard Langer would be delighted with two birdies in his first six holes. Sadly, he's had three bogeys around those to slip to one over for his second round.

His latest dropped shot came on the par-three sixth after he overcooked his tee shot. The German, a two-time Masters champion, elected to putt from off the back of the green and his effort came up well short.

    Two more putts needed.

  8. Postpublished at 16:57 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -5, Koepka -4, Fitzpatrick +2 (6*)

That's a lovely tee shot from Justin Thomas at 16. He thought it was in for a moment.

The American lands it 10 feet beyond the pin and watches it gently wheel back down the slope before settling a putter's length from the cup. He was willing that in!

  9. Postpublished at 16:56 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +1, Johnson -9, Cantlay -3 (5*)

Johnson finds the fairway from the 15th tee but McIlroy again sees his ball dive right on the par-five hole. The ball finds the thick rough.

A look of exasperation. A familiar sight.

  10. Bogey for Mickelsonpublished at 16:53 GMT 13 November 2020

    Ancer -6, Mickelson -4, (7*)

Oh Phil. And after all that good work on the last.

A loose tee shot leaves Phil Mickelson on the left bank and while he snicks his chip to about six feet, his putt for par just clips the cup as it slides past to the right.

It's a right result for Abraham Ancer though, who pitches on about 15 feet from the hole and watches his ball slowly trickle down to four or five feet, before sinking his putt.

    Six under for the Mexican

  11. Birdie wonderlandpublished at 16:53 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -5, Koepka -4, Fitzpatrick +2 (6*)

Birdie for Matthew Fitzpatrick that reels him in to two over. Brooks Koepka also strolls one in to continue his progression up the leaderboard.

What about that eagle putt for Justin Thomas? Oooh he's zipped it by and left some work on for birdie. The American bends down, sizes it up and tucks away from six feet.

  12. Johnson drops back to nine underpublished at 16:50 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +1, Johnson -9, Cantlay -3 (5*)

A very good effort from Johnson but it's a bogey for the world number one. He drops back to nine under.

The 36-year-old is still giving the hole a dirty look.

  13. Eagle chance for JTpublished at 16:48 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -4, Koepka -3, Fitzpatrick +3 (5*)

A knowing nod of satisfaction from Justin Thomas after slapping a superb approach over the creek at 15 and into the middle of the dancefloor to set up an eagle chance.

Brooks Koepka has also done well to give himself a shot at birdie after spraying his drive right.

  14. Birdie for Mickelsonpublished at 16:48 GMT 13 November 2020

    Mickelson -5 (6*)

If only I could play a wood from the fairway like Lefty, who reaches the 530-yard par-five 15th in two.

An eagle chance slides by so it'll be just the one shot gained for the five-time major winner.

  15. Amateur making wavespublished at 16:47 GMT 13 November 2020

    Augenstein -6 (8*)

    John AugensteinImage source, Getty Images

The 2019 US Amateur runner-up John Augenstein is having a Masters debut to savour.

The 23-year-old played at the US Open in September, missing the cut. I think he might just be around for the weekend here though.

Augenstein has birdied 13, 16 and 17 in his second round to improve to six under par. He's just four off the lead with 10 holes to play.

  16. Postpublished at 16:47 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +1, Johnson -10, Cantlay -3 (4*)

Johnson uses the slope on the 14th to try to get near the hole - the break takes him past it. He'll be lucky not to drop a putt. The ball was in an awful position to start with.

McIlroy's birdie putt breaks early but he makes par.

    Im -7 (3*)

Sungjae Im enjoyed a fruitful morning finishing off his opening round and has returned after a quick break in similar form. The South Korean has just birdied 12 - his third - to move to seven under par for the week.

  18. Postpublished at 16:42 GMT 13 November 2020

    McIlroy +1, Johnson -10, Cantlay -3 (4*)

Johnson has an awkward putt but at least he finds the 14th green with his iron.

Cantlay looks content with his effort - he has 15 feet for a birdie. McIlroy has about the same distance.

This trio will be looking to pick up more shots here - although two of them could do with DJ slowing down.

  19. Postpublished at 16:41 GMT 13 November 2020

    Thomas -4, Koepka -3, Fitzpatrick +3 (5*)

Tricky spot to navigate for Brooks Koepka at 15 after his drive drifts right, up on to the longer cut but with a few awkward trees in the way of the green. He'll have to lay-up.

Matthew Fitzpatrick went too far the other way, leaving Justin Thomas as the only one in this trio feeling relatively smug.

  20. Poulter raring to gopublished at 16:35 GMT 13 November 2020

Looks like someone is raring to go. Ian Poulter finished just outside the top 10 in 2019 and hasn't missed the cut at Augusta since 2013.

Gone a tad early with the tweet. He's not due out for another three hours plus and is level par after the first round.
