To have Leach at eight looks a place too high - that is a bit of a tail. And you've got Ravichandran Ashwin at nine for India - he scored a hundred last time.

This stadium really is huge. There are empty seats all over and there's still probably 25,000 people in attendance. It's intense with those in the stands all in support India.

The pink ball is nibbling through the air for Bumrah. The last ball swings in. England are yet to score.

Maybe both sides have picked the right team - they're playing to their strengths.

England have gone to their strengths. Their spinners will not out-spin the India spinners in these conditions. The pink ball might bring the seamers back into it.

I like the England team. We saw how well Zak Crawley went last summer. Bringing Bairstow back is a good move - this side need a bit more stability and he brings that.

India are at least beginning with seam from both ends, unlike in the last match. Jasprit Bumrah to Dom Sibley...

You're not alone there. I hope no bosses are reading.

After the first ball leapt off the pitch, there's a hint of swing for Ishant on the second. A delivery later in the over scuttles low and bounces twice before Pant. Who knows what to make of it.

The end result is a maiden with Zak Crawley watchful.

There's an almighty roar from this big crowd at Ishant runs in.

Hello! There's bounce - lots of it. The ball almost knocks wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant over, reaching him in front of his face.

Here we go then. I can't wait for this.

It'll be pitch black by the end of the day but Zak Crawley and Dom Sibley have emerged into the burning Indian heat.

Ishant Sharma, playing in his 100th Test, has the ball in hand.

Have England picked the right team?published at 08:58 GMT 24 February 2021

Ben: Risky business this 1 spinner in India tactic. Fair enough that it’s a day/night and pink ball but surely you need 2 spinners just to give your pace bowlers a rest in that heat?!

Jonathan Lucas Wood: I like the look of this team. Joe Root has proved he can do a great job as a second spinner in the past and great to see Anderson and Broad in the team together under lights.

Trevor Hyde: What the hell does Chris Woakes need to do to get into this team?

Joe Root is currently introducing his team to a host of dignitaries. This ground holds 110,000 people and half that amount are allowed in during this Test.

It is going to be quite the occasion.

The less said about that one the better. 58 all out.

India's spinners didn't take a wicket in their last day-night Test at home.

England are hoping for similar conditions. India clearly think it will turn.

Teamster13737: How many years have we been saying to pick bowlers for conditions and England pick one spinner for a Test match in India...suicide.

Jambarrell: Quite liking the long tail - just attack with our four best bowlers, none of this old pick a bowler who can bat a bit at no 8 nonsense.

  18. Postpublished at 08:45 GMT 24 February 2021

It's a bold selection from England. They have clearly gone with who they believe their four best bowlers are, regardless of it giving them a very long tail with Jofra Archer at number eight.

Joe Root will be hoping this pink ball swings as it has in training or he's going to be regretting not picking another spinner.

  20. 'We would have batted first'published at 08:42 GMT 24 February 2021

India captain Virat Kohli: "We would have batted first. It looks like a pitch where you can put some runs on the board. It looks pretty dry; it's hot and humid.

"Just coming to this beautiful stadium - it's an outstanding thing for Indian cricket, to have the stadium with the largest capacity in the world. Hopefully we can play more games here.

"I'm more worried about the lights than the colour of the [red] seats. We played in a similar stadium in Dubai, so we'll have to adapt pretty quickly."
