Crawley is very good on the front foot. India haven't adjusted their lengths - they need to drag it back.

Has anyone told Zak Crawley this is Jasprit Bumrah, bowling for the best team in the world at the biggest stadium in the world?

Two more boundaries come to the Kent batsman - one through the off side and another through the leg.

He's rattling along like he's playing in a one-day game.

Youngest son just came in. "3-1 to England! That’s good, isn’t it?"

  4. Eng 18-1published at 5 overs

    Crawley 15, Bairstow 0

Zak Crawley is the equivalent of a footballer who only scores worldies. He hit a stunning mid-wicket clip a couple of overs back and now him drives Ishant back down the ground to perfection. Virat watches on from slip and surely must be impressed.

Another boundary follows, again through mid-wicket, but this one was aerial.

Keeping will be interesting in this game. Pant upped his game last time, but he won't be used to the swing and the wobble. It's another chance for Foakes to stamp his authority.

  8. Eng 8-1published at 4 overs

    Crawley 5, Bairstow 0

Jonny Bairstow pokes awkwardly at the ball and Rishabh Pant spills the ball behind the stumps. The bowler, Bumrah, questions whether there was an edge and therefore a drop but replays suggest otherwise.

It was just the Lord's wobble. In Ahmedabad.

England's opening stand struggles continue. In eight Tests since the start of the Pakistan series last summer, they've had 13 opening stands, 154 total runs, average stand 11.8. They've lost the first wicket inside the first six overs 10 times, and only once reached 25 without loss.

Shot! We have runs off the bat. Zak Crawley has creamed Bumrah through mid-wicket. A fine, fine shot.

This is a real challenge for Bairstow. The ball is swinging and he hasn't played a lot of cricket.

  14. Eng 3-1published at 3 overs

Harsh! His 87 in the first Test was impressive, wasn't it?

All of England's runs have been extras so far.

    Sibley - plane - England.

Jonny Bairstow is England's number three. He hasn't played since the Sri Lanka series and has been back home in the meantime. Much has been made of his playing of spin. Can he do it against India's quicks?

That's a classic fast bowler's dismissal. Outside off stump, bit of movement, Sibley feeling for it.

Gone, gone, gone. England have lost their first wicket. If you forget the heat, crowd and stadium you could think this wicket had fallen in England. It's back of a length, a bit of movement and Sibley squirts an edge to second slip.

A big blow. The crowd is up.

Aren't these pink-ball matches brilliant? They are really interesting games of cricket. There can be cataclysmic collapses. The ball moves. Do you declare early?

  20. Eng 2-0published at 2.2 overs

England are away with a leg-bye off the pads of Crawley down to fine leg. It's a no-ball too. Ishant readjusts his impressive hair as he slumps back to his mark.
