You look at India and they have Ashwin at number nine. They look to just be a better side.
The shadows are lengthening. Pretty much the entire playing area is in shade, mainly thanks to the fact the stands scrape the sky. The floodlights are described as a 'a ring of fire', which is a new one on me, but I like it. No towers, but lights all around the circumference of the stands.

How about a wet Bank Holiday weekend? Waiting in all day for a tradesman, and miss them when they knock on the door.

There were a few reasons why England were outplayed in the last Test. Here, they've been woeful. There's still hope, though. Here comes Jack Leach.

Axar Patel has gone through England with balls that haven't spun.

There wasn't any commitment to the shot. If you're going to swing then swing hard.

It is just a straight ball again. It was a bit of a swish and Jofra is gone for 11. He will be disappointed with the way he is batting in Test cricket. His confidence looks shot.
Archer b Axar 11 (Eng 93-7)
Ah.
England really are having trouble playing the non-spinning left-arm spinner.
Quicker from Axar Patal, on with the arm, crashing into Jofra Archer's off stump.
Axar has four.

If England are 100-8 and Broad and Leach are at the crease. Are they better off having a bowl? It is one of the interesting things about day-night matches.
You're right about despair and inevitability, but it's lacking the humour.
Shot, Jofra! Too short from Ashwin and Archer gives it the beans. Four more.
England in danger of getting too many here.

Ross Matthewman: A Mrs Brown’s Boys Christmas Special?
Never mind Jofra, what about Ben Foakes? Batting looks hard enough without having to look after the tail. India are bowling these overs on fast forward.
Jonathan Agnew

What can Jofra do here? He has got a good eye and can hit the ball cleanly. It feels this best chance is to play a few shots.
Widening it out, I wonder where the England collapse sits in our culture. I'm after despair, humour and inevitability.

There must be more.

Hi Will, the point of Test cricket is to apply yourself as a batsman and bowler in all conditions to produce a result in your team's favour. I'm not sure England are doing that at the moment.
Sameer, Sheffield
There really is nothing like an England batting collapse, is there? For its place in the sporting conscious of the nation, there is nothing that provides the despair, humour and sense of inevitability. Foakes survives an Axar appeal for leg before. There's a lot of spin being sent down. Who have England got? Ah.
