It's a big opportunity for Australia today. They have won infrequently against their old nemesis in recent years. England have won 14 of the last 18 games in this format.

The Black Country Museum takes me back. A prime field trip location. Not as good as Alton Towers, though. Unbelievably, my school went there once. The players have had a drink.

Next time anyone comes to Edgbaston for a game, nip over to the Black Country Museum and enjoy the traditional 'chips & gravy' they sell there. Unbelievable scenes.

There's a few people that haven't been quite smart enough today. They've parked their cars near the nets not realising that this pitch is pretty close. That just missed the cars.

Big. Really, really big. To celebrate his reprieve, Sam Billings hits Mitchell Starc over square leg and all the way out of the ground. Had it been there, it would have landed halfway up the Party Stand. Instead, this is towards the nets and parked cars. Kane Richardson has to go from the dugout to retrieve it.

Alan Playford: Gravy on fish? Are you mad? Must be some medieval Yorkshire custom, later superceded by curry sauce on everything!

It would have been an absolute worldie, but it's still a chance. Sam Billings has whalloped it back at Mitchell Starc, who gets at least a left hand to it, but can't cling on.

A couple of balls in that last over just bounced through to Alex Carey. It's another indication that this pitch is really slow. England are getting themselves into a good position here and if they can get themselves anywhere near 270-280 I think it will take some chasing.

Australia will need three more overs from Marsh, Maxwell, or possibly Marcus Stoinis. After that it will be Adam Zampa and the big guns. Speaking of the big guns, here's Mitchell Starc...

Jonny Bairstow had 74 from 75 balls. Australia have applied an effective squeeze, he's only scored 13 from his next 26 balls.

Here's an interesting niche stat: It's the fourth highest score by a opener when their fellow opener and number three have made ducks in one-day cricket. The three above him are Martin Guptill (103*), Sanath Jayasuriya (127) and Shivnarine Chanderpaul (150).

England pinch a single when the ball barely leaves the track, with Mitch Marsh's left-footed effort well wide of the stumps. Square foot. Billings, currently looking unlikely to hit a cow with a shovel, has a hack, but still can't get anything on it. He might need a wider bat.

England have done very well and you feel they are well on the way to that 300 total.

The DJ is having a decent day. Rolling Stones, Queen. Hazlewood is getting just a hint of movement back into these right-handers. The last England boundary came two balls into the 28th over, so Australia have had a good 15 minutes or so.

Patrice West: As a Yorkshireman I’m offended you’ve only just discovered gravy goes with fish from a chippy. That should be a moment for your life, never mind this summer.

Mitch Marsh replaces Glenn Maxwell, who had just started to get leaky. Marsh walks with a permanent limp, never really looking like the picture of health. He scuttles in, stump to stump, Billings again struggling to get it away.

A couple of balls from Josh Hazlewood in this over have just come back into Jonny Bairstow and Sam Billings. I don't think there's any reverse swing, I think it's just a bit of seam movement.

    Bairstow 86, Billings 22

Josh Hazlewood, the metronome, comes back. The clouds gather and the breeze stiffens. A look at the radar suggests we're not in danger of a shower, but I wouldn't massively confident about having my washing on the line. Billings flaps and swipes, but there's only three from the over.

Take that. Sam Billings uses double-jointed wrists to reverse sweep Glenn Maxwell for four. Just imagine how hard that is. Maxwell is bowling off-breaks round the wicket, yet Billings still hits against the spin in front of square with enough power to scorch the turf. And he makes it look like he's flicking the head off a dandelion.

England need one of these two still in with 10 overs to go to maximise their score.
