Supporters of Cambridge United will have half an eye on what is going on between Salford and MK Dons this afternoon, while hoping their side can do the business away at Barnet in their hunt for an immediate return to League One.

The U's have lost just a single league game since October and can conclude this weekend in second place in League Two if results go their way. Barnet, meanwhile, have promotion hopes of their own and currently sit five points outside of the play-off places.

Also dreaming of promotion are two more sides who meet at Gresty Road, where 10th-placed Crewe Alexandra play host to ninth-placed Oldham Athletic. Three points either way would significantly boost the aspirations of one side, while directly harming the chances of the other.

Notts County's two-goal striker Alassana Jatta told Sky Sports: "This was one of those games you have to dig deep and get the result and we did."

County skipper Matt Palmer added: "We grinded it out, played our stuff when we could, created chances to have scored more, it's a good away win."

On the race for automatic promotion: "Any time you lose in the play-offs (as County did to Wimbledon last season), it motivates you for the next season.

"A lot has changed this season but we are all in it together, we know what we want to achieve. We have to take it one game at a time.

"We had to make sure we bounced back from Tuesday (a 3-0 defeat at Oldham) and we did."

Here is what that important win for Notts County does to the League Two table before the 15:00 GMT kick-offs.

The Magpies are up into the third play-off spot, for a couple of hours at least before Cambridge play.

Harrogate remain in trouble in the relegation zone, a point behind Crawley and Newport having played a game more, while bottom side Barrow now have two games in hand on the Sulphurites.

A result which is potentially quite damaging to Harrogate Town's hopes of staying in the Football League.

It's defeat for Simon Weaver's men which means they will stay in the relegation zone, one point from safety.

A lovely afternoon at the spa proves the perfect way to bounce back from Tuesday's disappointing defeat at Oldham, for Notts County.

They are into the automatic promotion places - for a couple of hours at least - after a double from Alassana Jatta, who now has 14 league goals for the season.

His first, a close-range finish after 10-minutes, when he looked to have crept offside, allowed County to control the game, while his second, 11 minutes from the end, showed great skill to control a fierce low ball and finish emphatically as it looped back down to earth.

Harrogate had a couple of late chances through sub Stephen Duke-McKenna but the old problems are still there. Plenty of effort, not much in the way of quality, especially where it counts, in the final third.

They face a real battle to stay in the EFL in the final six games.

They beat Notts County in the National League promotion final in 2020 to make the step up, but by August these sides could be two divisions apart.

  10. 'Hugely disappointing afternoon'published at 14:24 GMT 28 March

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

    Josh Falkingham
    Former Harrogate Town captain

I don't think we've done enough to deserve anything out of the game.

We haven't created enough opportunities, we haven't tested James Belshaw on his return.

Hugely disappointing afternoon. Just got to hope that results elsewhere go our way.

  11. Postpublished at 90+4 mins

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

Notts County are seeing this out with no alarm, though hopes of Alassana Jatta taking home the match-ball were hit by a poor touch on the edge of the box on the break.

  12. 'Game ebbs away'published at 14:22 GMT 28 March

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

    Tim Steere
BBC Radio York's Harrogate Town commentator

This game is starting to ebb away now.

Town are going to have to rely on favours from elsewhere in the league to keep the gap as low as possible from teams above them.

  14. SUBSTITUTIONSpublished at 89 mins

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

Good news for County Jayden Luker - the promising Luton loanee - is on for his first action since September after knee surgery.

Luke Browne is also on with Jodi Jones and Keanen Bennetts the ones to make way.

  15. Postpublished at 87 mins

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

Break in play for some treatment for Jodi Jones.

No chance for momentum to build for the hosts.

Jones won't be coming back on, so County will play a man short for a moment or two.

  16. 'Disappointing and frustrating'published at 14:14 GMT 28 March

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

    Josh Falkingham
    Former Harrogate Town captain

Duke-McKenna is full of enthusiasm, full of energy.

It sat up quite nicely for him, if only he could get over it and get the shot on target.

They've got to find something with a few minutes to go. They've got to create something.

It's really disappointing that before the game it was feeling like a brilliant opportunity for us at home. So it's really frustrating we've not got something so far.

  17. CLOSE!published at 83 mins

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

Just when you feel that goal has knocked the stuffing out of Harrogate they spring down the left before the half-cleared ball is looped to the right of the box where Stephen Duke-McKenna lashes in a rasping half-volley which flies inches over James Belshaw's crossbar.

  18. 'Hammer-blow to survival hopes'published at 14:09 GMT 28 March

    Harrogate 0-2 Notts County

    Tim Steere
BBC Radio York's Harrogate Town commentator

That could be a huge hammer-blow to Harrogate Town's hopes of survival.

Some fans are heading home with 11 minutes to go and it's an uphill battle for Town to get something from this.

GOAL: Harrogate 0-2 Notts Countypublished at 79 mins

    Alassana Jatta

Alassana Jatta scores his and Notts County's second goal at HarrogateImage source, Shutterstock

    That should be that...

Henry Gray has had a good game in goal but after he claims a low shot from Conor Grant he tries to throw quickly towards halfway.

The ball is pinched by County and Jodi Jones lets fly from 30 yards, with his low effort somehow controlled in his stride by Alassana Jatta six yards out and then slammed past Gray and into the roof of the net as it dropped.

Clinical stuff, and he was onside for this one.

    County have daylight.

  20. Postpublished at 77 mins

    Harrogate 0-1 Notts County

Some pretty approach play from Notts County before Tom Iorpenda almost bundles his way through on goal in the box, though the ricochet drops to Conor Grant whose first time effort is deflected away.

They'd love to put this game to bed and avoid any grandstand finale.
