    Birmingham 0-0 Southampton

Blues forward Jay Stansfield let's rip with a powerful half-volley from 20 yards but can't generate the swerve with the outside of his boot and it goes just wide.

A matter of seconds later, Kyogo Furuhashi bursts in behind and gets on the end of Stansfield's clipped through ball but the Japanese striker lifts his effort over Saints keeper Gavin Bazunu and over the bar.

    Great chance for Furuhashi.

    Nathan Broadhead (39 mins)

Nathan Broadhead breaks the deadlock in north Wales.

Preston are a tough nut to crack, but Broadhead has done it, heading home a fine cross from Kieffer Moore.

  3. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:24 GMT 29 December 2025

    Millwall 1-0 Bristol City

Zak Sturge is the second Millwall man into Mr Webb's naughty book.

    A silly foul.

    Ousmane Diakite OG (35 mins)

West Bromwich Albion's Ousmane Diakite (centre right) scores an own goal for Queens Park RangersImage source, PA Media

Oh dear. Not what the home fans needed.

Nicolas Madsen fires a free kick in from the left and Ousmane Diakite gets his attempted clearance all wrong and the ball flies past Joe Wildsmith in the Albion goal.

The Baggies are back to square one.

  5. Postpublished at 20:22 GMT 29 December 2025

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Blackburn

Every time Blackburn get the ball in Sheffield Wednesday's half, captain Todd Cantwell is usually involved.

He really pulls the strings for them in the same way Barry Bannan does for the Owls.

This time, Cantwell is stood imploring more movement from his team-mates as he tries to orchestrate an attack, but the others are not quite on his wavelength.

  6. Postpublished at 20:22 GMT 29 December 2025

    Millwall 1-0 Bristol City

Rob Atkinson gets above everyone from a Scott Twine corner but cannot hit the target with his header.

Bristol City having the better of things but they trail.

  7. Postpublished at 20:21 GMT 29 December 2025

    Portsmouth 0-0 Charlton

Around 35 minutes played at Fratton Park and it's safe to say this hasn't been a classic so far. Both sides struggling in possession and little in the way of clear-cut chances.

  8. GREAT SAVE!published at 20:20 GMT 29 December 2025

    Birmingham 0-0 Southampton

    Lively start at St Andrew's!

James Beadle is out of his goal very well to thwart Finn Azaz who found himself in space at the back post for Southampton.

Azaz shoots low and hard but Beadle saves with his legs.

  9. Postpublished at 20:19 GMT 29 December 2025

    Birmingham 0-0 Southampton

A bright start for Birmingham as they pinch possession high up the pitch and win an early corner. The Saints deal with it but they were almost their own undoing early doors.

  10. 'Boro probing the Hull backline'published at 20:17 GMT 29 December 2025

    Middlesbrough 0-1 Hull

    Neil Maddison
Former Middlesbrough midfielder on BBC Tees

We've made some good play, had some good moments, and got in good positions. We just haven't quite had the quality of that final pass just yet.

We've picked up the pace and we've been the better side.

  11. Agonisingly close for the hostspublished at 20:17 GMT 29 December 2025

    Wrexham 0-0 Preston North End

    Ian Mitchelmore
BBC Sport Wales at Stok Cae Ras

Route one at its (almost) best.

Superb quick thinking from Arthur Okonkwo whose long throw finds Nathan Broadhead on the halfway line, and Wrexham's record signing drives at goal before firing just wide.

A penny for Kieffer Moore's thoughts there as the striker was in a position to receive a pass from Broadhead before he shot.

The best opening of the night so far.

  12. KICK-OFFpublished at 20:16 GMT 29 December 2025

    Birmingham 0-0 Southampton

We're under way in our late kick-off at St Andrew's.

Birmingham have made four changes from the 1-1 draw with Derby on Boxing Day. Alfons Sampsted, Phil Neumann, Willum Thor Willumsson and Kyogo Furuhashi all come in. Christoph Klarer is suspended and Demarai Gray is not in the squad, while Marc Leonard and Marvin Ducksch drop to the bench.

Southampton’s key man Leo Scienza has dropped to the bench and is replaced by Jay Robinson following the 2-1 loss at Oxford.

  13. Postpublished at 20:15 GMT 29 December 2025

    Oxford 0-1 Swansea

The last thing Oxford would want now is to concede again before half-time.

It takes a good stop from Jamie Cumming to prevent the Swans extending their advantage.

  14. CLOSE!published at 20:15 GMT 29 December 2025

    Sheff Wed 0-0 Blackburn

Who's that young whipper-snapper put through in the Wednesday attack?!

It's Barry Bannan, all 36 years of him, and he spots Aynsley Pears off his line.

He goes to lift it over Pears, but his effort drifts the wrong side of the far post.

  15. Postpublished at 20:14 GMT 29 December 2025

    Millwall 1-0 Bristol City

Bristol City try to respond to falling behind to that Camiel Neghli goal.

Anis Mehmeti forces Millwall goalkeeper Max Crocombe into a save.

    Better from the visitors.

  16. Postpublished at 20:12 GMT 29 December 2025

    Leicester 1-1 Derby

    Leicester almost back in front.

Luke Thomas gets in down the left and fires an effort across the face of goal and just wide.

  17. Postpublished at 20:12 GMT 29 December 2025

    Portsmouth 0-0 Charlton

A good move by Portsmouth as they carve out a chance through Mackenzie Kirk, who fires just wide of the mark.

An improvement for Pompey who have struggled to string passes together in the opening 25 minutes or so until then.

  18. HITS THE WOODWORKpublished at 20:12 GMT 29 December 2025

    Norwich 0-0 Watford

    So close for Watford.

Max Alleyne is yet to score in a Hornets shirt but the on-loan Manchester City man is the width of a post from breaking his duck.

  19. goal

    George Campbell (25 mins)

West Bromwich Albion's George Campbell (right) scoresImage source, PA Media

A big header from the big centre-back. Who said George Campbell would be an unlikely source of goal?! (20:07)The defender rises highest and heads home Callum Styles' corner and the Hawthorns erupts!

  20. YELLOW CARDpublished at 20:10 GMT 29 December 2025

    Millwall 1-0 Bristol City

Millwall's Alfie Doughty incurs the displeasure of referee David Webb as he pulls back Jason Knight.

That is the first caution of the night and, given the way the game at Ashton Gate finished earlier this month, I bet it is not the last!
