Sheffield United celebrate at full timeImage source, PA Media
    • Sheffield United’s 4-0 win against Stoke City means that the Blades have won four successive league games while scoring 3+ goals each time for the first time since April 2017 in League One, and for the first time in the second tier since October-November 1985.
    • Wrexham are now unbeaten across their past nine Championship matches (W4 D5), their longest ever such run in the second division of English football.
    • Ipswich Town handed Coventry City just their second loss of the 2025/26 Championship season (also 2-3 v Wrexham in October), with the Sky Blues failing to score a goal in a league game for the first time in their past 13 outings.
    • Since the start of November, Southampton pair Finn Azaz (6 goals, 2 assists) and Adam Armstrong (5 goals, 3 assists) have been involved in more league goals than any other players in England’s top four tiers (8).
    • Josh Sargent ended a run of 14 league games without a goal in Norwich’s 3-2 defeat at Watford. It was his longest drought for the Canaries since his first 18 games in the 2021/22 Premier League campaign, a run he also ended with a goal at Vicarage Road.
    • Oliver Skipp scored his first league goal for Leicester City in what was his 35th appearance for the Foxes; it was just his third league goal overall, having also scored one for Tottenham (v Chelsea in February 2023) and another for Norwich City (v Birmingham City in February 2021).

Another rained off match at Ewood. Ashamed at what my club has become. Losing games is one thing, watching this managed decline happen is just soul destroying.

    Hannah, Lancashire

Blackburn's pitch was excellent years ago, despite the rain, our decline under the Venkys is evident. Another replay, feel sorry for the Wednesday fans. Our owners need to invest in the pitch, it’s embarrassing for us now and other clubs are laughing.

  3. 'That's exactly what we want'published at 17:25 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Derby 1-3 Leicester

    Leicester City

After the 3-1 win at Derby in the East Midlands derby at lunchtime, Leicester City boss Marti Cifuentes told BBC Sport:

“Pressure is part of the job, right. This is never about me, it about the club, the fans and trying to do the best we can.

“I said from day one, I was very honest, that this will be a rebuilding process, that it could take some time and the target is clear [promotion to the Premier League] because of the size of the club.

“It definitely has not been an easy week, or the last couple of weeks have not been easy, more because of the disappointment of the way we lost games and the way we performed.

“And it’s not about me, I’m very aware of what my job is and what my task is and that is what I work for every day.

“The first half was very good, and perhaps we could have scored even more goals and that’s a lot to say after being 3-0 up at half-time against a good team.

“It’s easy for me to sit here now after a win like this to say ‘that's exactly what we want’. But football is a challenge every week and we will play every game against teams that are well coached, and well prepared and I understand that we always want to perform at this level.”

  4. 'We will learn from it'published at 17:22 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Derby 1-3 Leicester

    Derby County

After the 3-1 defeat at home to Leicester, the Rams' third defeat in four games, Derby County head coach John Eustace told BBC Sport:

“We always ask for a reaction after we lose and we didn’t get that today in that first half.

“But you are going to lose two or three on the bounce, just like you will win two or three on the bounce. This is the Championship, and it’s always about the next game.

“We are disappointed to lose today but we have an opportunity now on Wednesday to put things right.

“It’s about being committed and competitive, that is all I ask for. If we were competitive in the first half like we were in the second, we would have been fine.

“We have shown all season that we are fighters and that through all disappointing moments we get on with it and we learn from it, and there will never be a question in my mind that we wouldn’t be competitive in that second half.”

Coventry losing so comprehensively shows what a tough league the Championship is - Ipswich set up well and deserved the three points.

"Top of the league, you're having a laugh!" was the cry from the home fans as Ivan Azon's follow-up trickled into the net for their comprehensive 3-0 win.

That is perhaps a bit harsh against the runaway league leaders considering there is plenty of distance in the table between Coventry City and their conquerors today.

Still, it was a great performance by Ipswich which propels them into the play-off spots.

Once they got the first goal, they started to get under the skin of the visitors who tried to forge a comeback, but struggled to find that final touch to keep their recent free-scoring form going.

An enthralling game for the neutral. A great result for Ipswich.

I think people need to calm down with the Coventry demise talk. They've still won 11 of the last 13. And are still seven points clear at the top.

    FT: Sheff Utd 4-0 Stoke

    Sanny Rudravajhala
BBC Radio 5 Live at Bramall Lane

Sheffield United lost their first seven games of the season. That was under a different manager and with Chris Wilder back in charge, they have turned it around.

This is a fourth straight win and it was resounding. They should have had more than four and it was a performance full of stand-out showings.

I’ll give a shout to Femi Seriki - a brilliant strike from distance for his first ever goal. He set up Patrick Bamford for United’s third and was assured in defence as well as lively going forward.

This was very worrying for Stoke. They didn’t look anywhere near like a promotion hopeful.

Middlesbrough last night, Millwall and Ipswich today, maybe we have a title race after all?

A stunning 3-0 win for Ipswich over Coventry, just the Sky Blues' second defeat of the season, has reduced the gap at the top to seven points and hauled Town up to fourth.

They do, however, remain just four points ahead of lunchtime winners Leicester in 14th in an incredibly tight play-off race.

Sheffield United may still be 18th but they are looking far more like play-off chasers than relegation battlers at present while Swansea's win over Oxford gave them a cushion over the bottom three.

Portsmouth, Charlton, Blackburn and Sheffield Wednesday will have a game in hand after their games were abandoned today while Norwich allowed a lead to slip to defeat at Watford at lunchtime to fall effectively six points from safety, such is their goal difference.

  11. 'Ultimate smash and grab'published at 17:05 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Bristol City 0-1 Millwall

    Nikesh Rughani
    Commentator on BBC Final Score

Milwall completed the ultimate smash and grab at Ashton Gate.

The home side were far superior, creating a couple of good chances in the first half, with Anis Mehmeti shooting just wide and Scott Twine having an effort cleared off the line.

After half-time, Millwall’s goal came against the run of play, a counter attack, leading to a double save from Femi Azeez, before Mihailo Ivanovic latched onto the deflection to score from close range.

Bristol City continued to create chances, with Sykes, Dickie and Riis all coming close.

But Millwall held on, to record their third win in a row to keep fans dreaming of the Premier League.

A big win for the Swans and a first in three attempts for new boss Vitor Matos.

Marko Stamenic put the Swans into the lead with a powerful header from Josh Tymon's cross late in the first half.

And the latter bettered that with a superb volleyed effort four minutes into stoppage time before the break.

A first win in eight games and a first since 25 October sees Swansea swap places with Oxford moving to 20th, three points above the drop zone.

For Oxford, the boost from beating Ipswich eight days ago, has disappeared with a tepid display in which they created little.

Aune Heggebo got one back for the visitors before Burrell's second of the day secured all three points for the Rs.

  14. 'Ipswich played with patience'published at 17:00 GMT 6 December 2025

    FT: Ipswich 3-0 Coventry

    Mick Mills
Former Ipswich and England captain on BBC Radio Suffolk

I think Coventry won't be too disappointed as first half they could have had a few goals.

Ipswich played with patience and worked as a team - this afternoon was all about taking the opportunity.

If you've played like this, I think everyone makes the same team on Wednesday.

    Southampton 3-1 Birmingham

And that is that at St Mary's.

A return to winning ways for Tonda Eckert's Saints and a fifth win in six.

Goals from Finn Azaz, his sixth in five consecutive games, and two for Adam Arnstrong, his fourth and fifth in five, proved enough to separate the two sides.

Birmingham got one back with a cracker from Demarai Gray and Kyogo Furuhashi missed a howler that could have set nerves jangling late.

As it is Southampton continue their upward trajectory moving to 27 points, just three from the play off positions.

  17. FULL-TIMEpublished at 16:55 GMT 6 December 2025

    Preston 1-1 Wrexham

    Somehow it finishes 1-1.

Arthur Okonkwo is the main reason, with a string of fine saved to prevent Preston converting many of their 23 attempts on goal while Thierry Small also hit the post and James McClean cleared one off the line.

Kieffer Moore tapped in the opener on four minutes but Harrison Armstrong turned home the equaliser nine minutes from time.

Quite a game in tricky conditions.

Wrexham are unbeaten in nine after their ninth draw of the season - hard to beat is an understatement.

    Bristol City 0-1 Millwall

Millwall secure the win on the road through Mihailo Ivanovic's goal.

Alex Neil's side continue to pick up points.

But there are unsavoury scenes on the touchline.

It seems to have been started by Neil and Robins captain Jason Knight, and suddenly everyone's involved.

All over now, a big three points for the Lions and a disappointing defeat for Bristol City.
