    Chesterfield 0-0 Bromley

Mitch Pinnock gets a couple of chances to deliver a few crosses into the Chesterfield box from the left, but no-one able to connect.

    Even start to this one.

    Bradford 0-0 Cardiff

Just for a moment it looked like Will Swan might get a run on goal after a long ball down the right channel but some excellent last-man defending from Gabriel Osho shepherds the Bradford man away from goal and he pinches possession to complete the clearance.

    Wigan 0-0 Bolton

Wigan Athletic players are arguing in unison about a penalty.

A free-kick is drifted into the back post where James Carragher is lurking.

But before he can meet the ball he goes down. Was there a shove in there? Replays suggest the shouts were merited.

    Chesterfield 0-0 Bromley

Bromley's wall does it job to defend a free kick 25 yards out after a quick break from the hosts, but it's half-cleared and Chesterfield win the first corner of the match.

The leaders smuggle it away, but the hosts have seen plenty of the ball.

There is a little bit of early niggle in this derby game.

Some pushing and shoving over the ball here, a full-blooded slide tackle there.

The tone has been set early on, for sure.

Respective bosses Ryan Lowe and Steven Schumacher former colleagues and good friends - but no friendship on the pitch of course.

What is BBM doing starting Osho, Turnbull & Willock? Two of those three players cost us the three goals in the home fixture. If we lose this one it’s squarely on the manager.

    Chesterfield 0-0 Bromley

Bromley forward Marcus Ifill looks in some discomfort as he gets to his feet gingerly.

He looks better now though as he chases a long ball down the flank.

Corey Whitely forces Chesterfield keeper Zach Hemming to beat a shot away from an acute angle as Bromley look to flood the penaty area when they get forward.

    Bradford 0-0 Cardiff

Max Power swings the first ball of the game into the mixer from deep on the Bradford right but it's too close to Cardiff keeper Nathan Trott who gathers with ease.

The hosts are pressing at 100mph, this won't be an easy afternoon for the leaders, that much is clear already.

    Bradford 0-0 Cardiff

Frantic and fiercely-contested opening few minutes at Valley Parade, the hosts penned their visitors back early but the Bluebirds are growing into it.

    Wigan 0-0 Bolton

Bolton set themselves up for the first corner of the afternoon.

The ball is swept into the near post by Josh Sheehan and it's well defended and headed out for another corner.

Wigan are more commanding with the way they defend the next ball in and clear the danger.

    Tranmere 0-0 Walsall

Early warning for Rovers as Jack Barrett is forced into a decent early save from Jamille Matt who heads straight at the home keeper.

Big chance to settle the nerves for Walsall.

    Wigan 0-0 Bolton

Wigan Athletic boss Ryan Lowe spoke this week of having a confident side “champing at the bit” for this derby.

It is certainly a game that Bolton Wanderers have got themselves up for in the recent past, with Wigan losing both their previous two games against the Trotters.

That is as many as across their previous 15 against Bolton, when they won seven and drew six.

So far, the early exchanges have shown that Bolton are right up for it on their trip to the Brick Community Stadium.

    Chesterfield 0-0 Bromley

These two sides came up together from the National League in 2024 and are already plotting another promotion.

Can Bromley further stamp their authority at the top with an eighth straight win, or will the hosts strengthen their play-off credentials?

Chesterfield deal with a very early long throw into their box.

Bobby Pointon is back after missing three games with Calum Kavanagh missing out while loan signings Harrison Ashby and Joe White make the bench.

Manager of the month for December Brian Barry-Murphy has made two changes from the Cardiff XI which drew 1-1 at Leyton Orient last Saturday.

Calum Chambers returns to skipper the side while David Turnbull is also recalled while Will Fish drops to the bench and Omari Kellyman misses out with a groin injury.

Third against first, what a way to start the day's League One programme.

Back in September, the reverse fixture saw Bradford win 3-1 at Cardiff to go top. If they can repeat the feat at Valley Parade they will cut the deficit to the summit to just three points and keep the title race wide open.

The Bantams have lost only once at home since last March, going down 2-1 to Burton in November, and though the Bluebirds have picked up 19 points from a dozen away games this season, they have only scored 13 goals in that run.

"I think both sets of supporters will be excited about it because it's two teams that have been at the top end of the table since the early weeks," Bradford boss Graham Alexander told BBC Radio Leeds.

"We had a fantastic game down there and obviously we came out on top, but I thought it was a really good game of football from both teams.

"You could see the quality on show and I would expect the game on Saturday to be similar."

    Here’s hoping we're in for a lunchtime treat…

  19. Latics unchanged; Trotters swap fourpublished at 12:21 GMT 17 January

    Wigan v Bolton (12:30 GMT)

Wigan Athletic are unchanged from the side that got the better of Championship club Preston North End in the FA Cup a little over a week ago.

If it ain't broke, don't fix it...

On the bench, however, this is no Maleace Asamoah who featured as a substitute last week. But Fraser Murray and new loan arrival Joe Taylor coming into the squad.

There is a shakeup of things for Bolton Wanderers today, with four changes made from the 3-1 defeat at Peterborough last time out in the league.

The headliner would have to be that goalkeeper and new number one Jack Bonham goes straight into the starting line up after arriving from Stoke earlier this week.

There is a general consensus that the changes for this one could also bring about a change of formation for the visitors.

Bolton are yet to win a game this year, having lost three and drawn two of their matches across all competitions wince late December.

Trotters boss Steven Schumacher has this derby-day trip to Wigan Athletic down as a ‘must win’ game, but not just because they want to keep their promotion push on track.

“We want to try get back to winning ways - we can’t afford to keep dropping points in the league, so it’s important from that point of view,” he told BBC Radio Manchester.

“But what’s more important is that it’s a derby game. We have to perform and make sure we commit and show an attitude and desire about our play that a game like this merits. It’s the biggest game of our season, our fans can’t wait for it.”
