FT: Ipswich 3-0 QPR - Ipswich promoted to the Premier League

    Mick Mills
Former Ipswich and England captain on BBC Radio Suffolk

The possibility of this club, and what this club should be doing is also down to the owners.

Nobody would walk in here with money if there wasn't a possibility of this happening today, because of our history, because of what other teams have done in the past - people know what this club in Suffolk is capable of.

These owners have come in and they weren't talkers, they were doers.

Dara O'Shea, Ipswich captain, told Sky Sports: "It means everything. This is what we set out to do at the start of the season.

"I don't think anyone wanted us to do it. Everyone had their say. We had to walk the walk and we have done it.

"It's never easy (coming down from the Premier League). Nothing is given in this league, you have to earn everything and fight for everything and we've had to do that."

On the Town fans: "I am so happy for the club and the town. I love Portman Road, I love the fans.

"We had a tough season last year, there wasn't a lot to cheer about, but the fans were always with us."

On the celebrations tonight: "It's a free-for-all tonight. As much as it's for us and the fans it's for our families too."

Ipswich goalscorer George Hirst told Sky Sports: "This year everyone wanted us to fail but we've done it.

"It's been difficult, we've made it hard for ourselves, but who cares, we're back in the Premier League and that's all that matters"

On being recalled to the side and scoring after three minutes: "It's games like this when you want to perform. I thought the way we started was unbelievable, to go 2-0 up (after nine minutes).

"We made it difficult for ourselves after that, but who cares."

On his third promotion with Ipswich: "(This club) means more than anything, I have never experienced anything like being here, I will stay as long as they want me.

"It's been a great run and hopefully we can keep going."

Hirst is also hoping for a place in the Scotland squad for the World Cup and said after a few days of celebration: "I'll stay ready for when the call comes."

After guiding Ipswich back to the Premier League at the first time of asking boss Kieran McKenna told Sky Sports: "It means a lot, I have to say. It's probably been the hardest one (of our three promotions in four years) if I'm honest. It's brilliant.

"I know how hard we've had to work to turn it around. As a club we had such a climb and a steep fall. We've had to rebuild this team under difficult circumstances and we deserve to be where we are today."

On the first half performance: "I thought we were incredible. It was an incredible start, we didn't manage to maintain that. To have a third promotion at home in four years, and see so many happy faces."

On leaving it late to secure a top-two finish: "We started slow, which can happen, but we have steadily improved over the course of the year. We showed it on Tuesday at Southampton and today, it's about how you finish.

"I am going to enjoy this one - I'm not going to start thinking about the Premier League today."

Kieran McKenna is being hoisted aloft in the dressing room, on the shoulders of Darnell Furlong, and is bring sprayed with champagne (or at least some fancy bubbly) by his players.

McKenna is the first manager to lead Ipswich to the top flight twice.. one more than the legendary Sir Alf Ramsey, who has a stand named after him... what might they name after McKenna one day?

Memories are being made which will last a lifetime.

They will also keep dry-cleaners in the Ipswich area in business for a long time too, by the looks of things...

    Derby 1-2 Sheff Utd

Sheffield United come back from behind to end Derby's hopes of an emphatic end to their season.

A poor mistake from Joe Ward handed the Blades possession in the final third with Tom Cannon launching a low strike into the bottom corner to level for the visitors.

Sydie Peck was then left in space to nestle in a strike of his own and defeated Derby were unable to regain any kind of a spark to challenge the play-off spots once again.

A disappointing end for the hosts and one that'll have Blades fans wondering why their season has unfolded so tamely.
